When Nutrition Month and Easter fall on the same page of the calendar, there is no other option than to merge both into one healthy yet delicious celebration. Though the Easter bunny is the bearer of all things sweet, the holiday doesn’t have to be about the sugar high and the empty calories. Instead, plan a gorgeous feast with the fresh flavors of Spring but make sure to indulge a little, healthy doesn’t mean you have to be missing out!
For those whose family traditions include a festive Easter brunch; create a menu that will merge both traditional classics and seasonal produce.
1. For healthy dinner ideas that will have your guests hopping to the table, make sure that the star of your meal – the protein - is tender and flavourful.
- GLAZING: When glazing ham, replace the honey with a sugar-free preserve or make a flavourful sweet mustard glaze.
- Not a ham fan? Try Cornish hens, lean rack of lamb, or sliced pork tenderloin medallions on a bed of vegetables.
The key to delectable meats, fish and poultry? Marinating… Simply mix Maille’s balsamic or other red wine vinegar, extra-virgin olive oil, fresh or dried herbs, and minced garlic to create a delicious marinade for lean beef or lamb. Or use Maille’s Tarragon, Fig or Mango vinegars to marinade fish or poultry. Put in the fridge for a few hours or overnight for best results.
2. - Accompany your main with a few simple side dish recipes to take advantage of the season’s freshest foods, such as asparagus, peas and new potatoes. Roast or grill vegetables using healthy oils (not butter). Bring out the natural flavors by tossing them into a salad or lightly drizzle Walnut Oil and Red Pepper vinaigrette.
